Vincent van Gogh was poor and unknown when he took his own life at the age of thirty-seven. The fact that we know and appreciate his paintings today is thanks to his sister-in-law Johanna (Jo) van Gogh-Bonger, who was married to his brother Theo, an art dealer. Theo died only six months after his brother – of syphilis . The young widow was left alone with a small child and hundreds of paintings in which nobody was interested in. Vincent did not manage to sell even one. Jo decided to change this. Thanks to her vision, her strengths, determination and influence she managed to make Vincent’s art world famous.

In the novel, art history student Gina follows in Jo’s footsteps a hundred years later and is drawn into a fascinating world. A passionate journey begins, focusing on two strong female characters from two different centuries on their path to emancipation, giving the film a relevance for today and shows us what is possible if you are passionate and persistent about something.
